Come the first days of 2022, you’re going to be inundated with ads, books and influencers pitching all sorts of ‘detoxes’ and diets that hinge on counting calories (or carbs- yes Keto I’m looking at you too!)

BUT that is not the way to go, for health and wellbeing, even if one of your goals involves reaching your happy weight. A MUCH better idea for long term health is to nourish your gut-metabolism axis, using science instead.

‘Wait: what’s my gut-metabolism axis?’ I hear you ask.

Well, let’s break it down.

Firstly, your gut microbes hunt for undigested food and turn it into energy – which can be stored as fat. The thing is, different microbes are better than others at this.

Your microbes (and their metabolites!) are linked with ‘turning on’ genes in your body that are related to energy distribution AND they can affect fat and glucose production and storage in your liver.

Add in that your microbes might influence how you taste food and your mood, and you can see how our metabolism is a lot more complex than the calorie or carb equation. Your microbiome plays a starring role.

Good news is, much of your GM is in your control – how you feed and treat it matters, which is what ‘Eat More, Live Well‘ is all about! (Link in bio – don’t forget your pre-order gift – ONLY 24HRS TO GO!!!)

To get you started….

10 foods to feed your gut–metabolism axis

  1. Natural live yoghurt
  2. Jumbo oats
  3. Balsamic vinegar
  4. Butter beans
  5. Ginger
  6. Fennel
  7. Cold potato salad
  8. Pistachios
  9. Chilli peppers
  10. Grapefruit

The takeaway

Diet culture is EVERYWHERE, especially at the new year. But please don’t fall victim to the diet-merry go round that can damage your gut and quite frankly doesn’t achieve the long term results you guys deserve- stick to the science and your gut will thank you.
